Plex in Your Car

Can I play Plex in my car?

Yes, SENWAY 1 can play media from your Plex library on a compatible car infotainment screen while the vehicle is parked.
SENWAY 1 runs Plex-compatible apps on its own hardware, which includes 8 GB of RAM and a Qualcomm SM6350 processor.

What do I need?

You need SENWAY 1, a compatible vehicle screen, access to a Plex Media Server library, and a network connection to that server. A Plex account is used to sign in.
If SENWAY 1 and the server are on the same local network, local playback does not require a Plex Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass. To watch from a home server while away, the server must be reachable remotely. If you need support setting up Plex server for remote access, read Plex support article here. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289506-remote-access/ Plex's subscription requirements depend on the player and account: the official Plex app requires a Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass on the viewing account, or a Plex Pass held by the server administrator. If the Plex server you are acessing is set up well, the open-source Plezy will connect using the same logic.

How do I start playback?

1.Connect SENWAY 1 to the vehicle's compatible USB infotainment port and connect it to a network.
2.Open the pre-installed Plezy app from the SENWAY home screen and choose Plex as the server platform.
3.Sign in using the code or QR instructions shown on the screen, or use the browser sign-in option. Choose your Plex server and select a title to play.
The official Plex app is also pre-installed. It uses browser-based sign-in on SENWAY 1; Plezy provides the QR sign-in option. Both can be operated through a compatible touchscreen.

How does SENWAY 1 connect to the server?

For remote streaming, connect through a phone hotspot, vehicle Wi-Fi, a compatible nano SIM, or an optional CloudSIM plan. Your Plex server must also be configured for remote access. When SENWAY 1 is on the same local network as the server, it can connect locally.

What should I expect from playback?

SENWAY has tested playback of 1080p and 2K video. The image displayed on the car screen cannot exceed that screen's resolution. Buffering and quality can also depend on the network, file format, player, and whether the server must transcode the video.
Use the factory touchscreen when available. If the vehicle has no touchscreen, use the included SENWAY remote.
Check vehicle compatibility before ordering. Use video and entertainment features only while safely parked and where permitted by law.
